Waiting Room

I think it’s been longer between my last blog post and this than ever before since I started this blog. This doesn’t, unfortunately, mean that I’m now about to post something significant and worth the wait. It’s more a case of severe disorganisation and a touch of laziness. I seem to have been doing an awful lot of waiting over the last month, and somehow, rather than meaning I’ve had lots of spare time to get on with things, all the waiting has kept me really rather busy.

I spent three weeks waiting for a pain in my arse (literally) to go away so I could start running again. Handy tip: if you’re running along and someone steps out suddenly in front of you, consider stopping rather than trying to do some mad sideways leap that pretty much wrenches one of your legs out at the hip. Just a suggestion.

I’ve spent at least a month waiting to find out when my auntie status is going to be further enhanced. As of this evening, that wait appears to be almost over.

I waited for what seemed like weeks for the excessive mud to dry up so I had at least a chance of bringing the horse in from the field without needing several changes of clothes. Then, when the mud had frozen solid and was covered in snow, I waited for the snow to melt for the same reason. Then, when the snow had melted, I waited for the mud to dry out… I’m sensing a pattern there.

I’ve done an inordinate amount of work-related waiting, mainly for other people to do things on which my things are dependent. I’ve been doing other work-related things while I’ve been waiting, obviously, not just sitting about. In fact, I’m still waiting for the day when I have the luxury of a spare five minutes to sit about.

February is obviously a short month, so on the bright side, I guess I didn’t have to wait all that long for it to be over. Which is just as well, because I’d had enough of winter. I really think it would be a good idea to reschedule Christmas and stick it at the end of February. I mean, why does all the good stuff happen at the start of winter, and then you have to deal with January and February dragging on and on with no end in sight? I might suggest that to Gregory, or whoever sorts out the calendar.

Anyway, all the waiting seems to have paid off, because it’s now March, it’s neither snowing nor raining, I have plenty of work to be getting on with, and, thankfully, minimal pain in my arse. Now we just need niece number four to make an appearance, and it’ll be a full house. And probably quite a busy one. It may be some time again until my next post…
